HEATHER ANDERSON : People Powered Radio - Tuesday 14th April, 6.30pm at Riverbend Books
Join us for an evening discussing the 4ZZZ book, People Powered Radio - Fifty Years of Australian Community Radio station 4ZZZ. Author Heather Anderson will be joined in conversation by Leanne de Souza.
ABOUT THE BOOK
For fifty years, 4ZZZ has been more than just a broadcaster - it’s been a movement, a megaphone, and a meeting place for radicals, musicians, punks and radio nerds alike. People Powered Radio captures the oral and archival histories of one of Australia’s oldest and most unique community radio stations. From the station’s subversive roots in the 1970s to its present-day digital renaissance, this rich and deeply researched book documents the lasting contributions made by 4ZZZ; promoting independent music, producing alternative news and fostering authentic community collaborations. People Powered Radio is not just a story about radio. It’s an insider’s perspective on what happens when people build something together and refuse to let it go. It’s a celebration of everything that 4ZZZ has offered over the last half a century and what the future might hold for the station.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Associate Professor Heather Anderson is a journalism scholar and lecturer with the School of Humanities, Languages and Social Science at Griffith University. She has been involved with community radio since the early 1990s when she first volunteered at 4ZZZ in Brisbane. These days Heather is mostly involved at Triple Zed through the long-form interview program, Talking Zeds and as a station historian. People-Powered Radio: Fifty Years of Australian Community Radio Station 4ZZZ is her second book; her first, Raising the Civil Dead (published by Peter Lang, 2012), investigated relationships between community radio and people impacted by incarceration.
