Welcome to the wonderful world of shared reading. Reading with your child from a young age brings many benefits… for you, your child and your family.

Reading opens doors of creativity and imagination. Reading develops language and communication skills. Reading builds bonds between parents, carers and children.

Reading with young children is a special time. Children’s memories of these experiences will stay with them.

To celebrate the books you share with your child, we have published this Journal as a keepsake. It is a record of your child’s reading childhood and the time you share together.

To read 1000 books before five you will need books. You can buy books from your local bookseller, borrow books from your local library and lend books between family and friends.

We also know that children love to re-read books. You can record the same book as often as you read it, again and again. Reading 1000 books with your child before five will make a difference.
