DARRYL DYMOCK: Done Working - Sunday 30th August, 4pm at Riverbend Books
SUNDAY 30 AUGUST 2026 4pm
Dr Ann Kelly will be in conversation with Darryl Dymock about his latest non-fiction book, DONE WORKING: Finding Contentment in Retirement.
ABOUT THE BOOK
Finding contentment in retirement is more than a recipe, more than a formula. It’s more than financial planning or choosing aged care. It’s about how we connect the dots in our lives to create the quality of life we aspire to in retirement, to achieve a Goldilocks ‘just right’ balance between ‘too hot’ and ‘too cold’.
In DONE WORKING, Darryl Dymock weaves together the frank advice of 101 retirees, world-wide research and his own insights from conversations and experience to tease out seven ways of finding contentment in retirement.
Whether you’re thinking about retiring or are already there, DONE WORKING will help you negotiate your own best way to a contented life.
Fiona Stager, Co-owner of Avid Reader Bookshop and Riverbend Books said, ‘DONE WORKING is a really useful book for those about to retire or for retirees struggling with lack of contentment. I don’t recall seeing anything quite like this on the market.’
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Dr Darryl Dymock is a multi-published author and prize-winning short story writer, an active Adjunct Senior Research Fellow in Vocational Education and Lifelong Learning at Griffith University, Brisbane, a mentor with the Queensland Writers Centre, Convenor of a Men’s Shed Writers Group, and a former Tutor with the University of the 3rd Age (U3A), Brisbane. He’s not quite ‘done working’ because he keeps finding ‘interesting’ things to do. Darryl lives in Brisbane with his wife and his laptop, and is the father of four adult children, all of whom, along with their families, continue to bring colour and meaning to his life.
